  • What is Giclee Art Print?
The term Giclée (pronounced "Zhee-kle") Print refers to reproductions of art made with museum-quality materials using a professional large-format inkjet printer. During the printing process, a series of small spray nozzles emit millions of drops per second. Due to the way the drops are sprayed and mixed with a pigmented ink system with 9 (and more) colors, you get a wider color range than almost all other types of prints available on the market.
  • What is the process of making a Giclée art print?
First, the original painting is scanned or digitally photographed (digitized) to produce a very high resolution file (over 300 dpi). Then a sample is made and matched with the original. After you have passed the test, the final image is printed on various media;- printed on canvas and stretched around extra wide stretchers so that no frame is needed.- the print on paper is made in the same way, except that they need to be framed behind glass.
  • Are all Giclee art prints the same?
No, the quality depends on the digital file used to print from, and the accuracy of colors and details compared to the original. Other important elements are the quality of the canvas or paper and ink.
  • What does "museum quality" mean? "
Museum quality means that the materials used are archival material - that is, bleach-resistant, acid-free and long-lasting. The inks used are pigment-based as opposed to dye-based, which makes them archival.NB! It is important that the ink and paper or canvas used to make the print meet these standards.
  • What is the value of a "limited edition"? "
There is no limit to the number of Giclee prints that can potentially be made from an original work of art. By limiting an edition to a specific number (usually limited to 5 to 250 copies of each original), the value of these prints increases because once the limit is reached, no more will be made.NOTE! Do not buy Giklée art prints that are not signed and numbered by an artist!Should I buy a print or an original? An original is a better investment for the future, and should be your first choice if you can afford it. A museum-quality print is a less expensive alternative, and from a distance it is difficult to say that the prints are not original paintings.
  • Will the colors match what I see on my screen?
The screens vary. If accurate color matching is important, you can order a proof print (see price list).
  • What is the difference between a Giclee Art Print and other reproductions?
Mass market reproductions, such as posters, made with offset printing, are not museum quality, and are not archival material or durable. Dissolution of pressure is much coarser. They are made in editions of hundreds to thousands, with affordable materials, which is why they are so cheap to buy.MOST IMPORTANT! They do not carry the value assurance of the artist's signing.
  • Are there other types of art prints besides Giclee?
Yes, there are many forms of traditional printing methods such as woodcut or woodcut, wood engraving, linocut, engraving, etching, mezzotint, aquatint, lithography, monotyping and screen printing. These are more traditional methods. Youri has a master's degree in art graphics and masters all of these techniques.
